Off-Road Vehicle Trail At Pocomoke River State Forest And Park To Remain Closed Until Further Notice

SNOW HILL — The Maryland Park Service today announced that due to the wet weather conditions over the last month and a half, the approximately six-mile long Chandler Off-Road Vehicles (ORV) Trail System at Pocomoke River State Forest and Park would remain closed until further notice. The projected reopening of the trail had been on our around March 1.

“We had really hoped to have the trail open sooner, but the ground is just too wet and needs time to settle,” said Ranger Gary Adelhardt, the park’s manager.

While the Chandler ORV Trail System is the only one of its kind located on public land on the Eastern Shore, ORV enthusiasts are encouraged to make use of ORV trails in Garrett-Potomac, Green Ridge and Savage River State Forests. Off-road vehicles must be registered annually with DNR and display a registration sticker. Registration stickers are available from any DNR regional service center, and stickers and trail maps are available at the five state forests where ORV use is permitted. Stickers will not be sold at Pocomoke River State Forest and Park while the trail is closed, but are available from the Regional Service Center in Salisbury.

For more information about the Chandler ORV Trail System or any of the ORV trails in Maryland state parks visit http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/orv.html.
