Meeting set to discuss trout management plan

ROGERS - Do you like to fish for trout in the cold water of the White River below Beaver Dam? Would you fish more often in the Beaver tailwater if the fishing were improved in some way? If you would like to have a say in how the trout fishery is managed in the tailwater below Beaver Dam, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission needs your help.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Trout Management Program has developed a new process for creating management plans for trout fisheries around Arkansas, involving people and anglers interested in helping. Trout fishery managers will begin using this process to develop a management plan for the 8-mile long Beaver Tailwater trout fishery.

To get involved, just attend a public workshop on Mar. 1, in the Wal-Mart Auditorium of the Shewmaker Center at the North Arkansas Community College in Rogers, beginning at 6:30 pm. This will be a facilitated workshop held to gather the thoughts, problems and desires that folks have with trout fishing in the Beaver Tailwaters.

It's an angler's opportunity to discuss the trout fishing, access area needs, or anything else that should be considered in the future of this trout fishery.  All of the input will be considered and will help guide the development of the first trout fishery management plan for this important fishery in northwest Arkansas.  For more information, call 877-425-7577, 479-631-6005, or go to the website at www.agfc.com.
