Ask Fish And Game

Q: I heard the rules for muzzleloaders are about to change in Idaho. Is that true?

A: You heard correctly. The Fish and Game Commission has approved the use of conical bullets in traditional hunts. The Commission was responding to concerns of some hunters who feel conical bullets penetrate better than round ball bullets, resulting in more humane kills. Lead or lead-alloy, non-jacketed conical bullets will be allowed. Sabots will not be permitted in traditional muzzleloader hunts. At the same time the Commission denied the request of some hunters to allow the use of low powered scope sites in traditional hunts.
