HONOLULU — The Department of
Land and Natural Resources announces that pig hunting is closed in the
Makiki-Tantalus area across to Manoa Valley, effective today.
No pig hunting will be allowed in the area until May 2 through July
29, 2005, the next hunting period.
"Hunters have helped in protecting the resources by reducing the
number of pigs in this area. Controlled hunts by permit, for three
month-on and three-month off intervals help to protect the watershed and
property of private landowners from pig damage," Young said.
“We also want to thank hikers who followed our recommendations to
leave their dogs at home during the hunting period,” Young said. “Dogs
on leashes, are welcome to join their owners on the trails once again,”
he said.
