Contact: Marvin McNew Sneaky Snakes program for Preschoolers at the Salamonie Interpretive Center Enjoy learning about nature in an active and exciting way with your child or grandchild. Register him or her in this special program designed for youth, ages 3 to 5. Join the fun as we talk about snakes on Tuesday, March 15 or Wednesday, March 23 at 10 a.m. This program is offered twice to accommodate more children. In this one and a half hour program, children and their parents or caregiver enjoy activities focused around snakes and the letter S, go outside, hear a story, enjoy a craft and tour the interpretive center and wildlife viewing window. Teresa Rody, Interpretive Naturalist, states, "Each month we are having a great time learning to appreciate nature and growing skills that help to ready the kids for school. We’ll make snakes at this session that even the least snake-friendly participants will enjoy decorating." Parents are asked to pre-register for this event and stay with their child throughout the program. Participants can choose to bring their lunch to eat together after the event. The Salamonie Interpretive Center is open Wednesday through Friday and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from October through April. This barrier-free building features exhibits, floor to ceiling windows in the wildlife viewing area, and staff to answer your questions. The center is located in Lost Bridge West Recreation Area on Highway 105 in western Huntington County. Visit our web site’s new address at www.in.gov/dnr/uwis/ for more information about available programs. To register for this event, call the Upper Wabash Reservoirs Interpretive Services, 260/468-2127.
