Frankfort, KY (February 10, 2004) - One of the largest wildlife volunteer efforts in the nation asks again for Kentucky’s assistance. Part of the Great Backyard Bird Count will be conducted Saturday, February 19 at the Salato Wildlife Education Center. From 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., anyone interested in birds is invited to contribute to a North American count to help determine bird distributions across our continent. Biologist Mary Carol Cooper will lead the event which includes practical tips on identifying common birds, recording your field observations, and also building a bird feeder to take home. The program is open to ages 12 - adult at a cost of $7.00 each. Registration and pre-payment required at (502) 564-7863. The Salato Wildlife Education Center is located at the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Game Farm three miles west of Frankfort on U.S. 60. Open Tuesday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Center is closed Mondays and state holidays.
