Alaska Board of Game to Review Status of Closed Areas at Upcoming Meeting

(Juneau) – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game would like to remind the public that the Alaska Board of Game will be reviewing the status of all closed areas, controlled use areas, special management areas and refuges in Southcentral Alaska, including McNeil River, the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge, and Chugach State Park, at its March meeting in Anchorage.

Numerous areas of the state have hunting and access restrictions. The Board of Game periodically reviews the validity of restrictions and assesses any necessary changes to restrictions.

In proposal 129, which was submitted by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the department incorporated all of the closed and controlled use areas in Game Management Units (GMUs) 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17, but inadvertently did not include language pertaining to closures and restrictions in state game refuges and management areas, 5 AAC 92.520 and 5 AAC 92.530.

The review of all restrictions in these GMUs are part of the Board of Game’s “Call for Proposals” and the board’s published legal notice.

Public comment on restrictions is encouraged, either in writing or during public testimony scheduled to begin on March 4. The deadline for providing written comments and having them included in the Board of Game members’ meeting binders is 5:00 pm on February 18, although written comments on specific proposals are accepted up until the board begins deliberating on the proposal.

You may review all proposals, including proposal 129, other important meeting information, and game regulations, including 5 AAC 92.520 and 5 AAC 92.530, on the Board of Game’s website at:

http://www.boards.adfg.state.ak.us/fishinfo/index.php

You may also obtain printed copies of the proposal books from ADF&G offices.
