IDAHO FISH AND GAME
HEADQUARTERS NEWS RELEASE Boise, ID
Landowners Encouraged To Sign Up For Access Yes! In an ongoing effort to open more than one million acres of Idaho land to hunters and anglers, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game is inviting more landowners to participate in Access Yes! Landowners wanting to participate in 2005 must sign up by the end of this month. Access Yes! is a program designed to improve access to private land and landlocked public land. Fish and Game compensates landowners who willingly allow hunters and anglers to access or cross their property. Participating landowners are covered by the state recreational liability statute (36-1604). The liability shield applies to landowners who provide recreational opportunities without charge or who have entered into a cooperative lease agreement with the state. Participating landowners also have the ability to limit the amount and type of access they will allow under the program. In 2004, Access Yes! allowed people to hunt and/or fish on 220,000 acres of private land and more than 250,000 acres of public land in Idaho. If the Idaho legislature adopts the license fee adjustment proposed by Fish and Game, there's a good chance as many as 120,000 additional acres of private land would be added to the program in 2005. Landowners interested in participating in the Access Yes! program must sign up by February 28. Sign up forms are available on the web at the following address: http://fishandgame.idaho.gov./hunt/access/2005_landowner.pdf
