DOW WATCHABLE WILDLIFE PAVILION BRINGS THE WONDER OF COLORADO WILDLIFE INDOORS AT SPORTS SHOW

The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) is taking the Colorado RV, Sports, Boat and Travel Show to the next level with a cutting edge new exhibit designed to teach people about viewing the state’s wildlife while allowing them to practice the activity.

The 48th Annual Colorado RV Sports, Boat and Travel Show will take place March 2-6 at the National Western Complex. The DOW will have a booth with wildlife experts on hand to answer questions and displays and presentations, but the featured event this year is the DOW-sponsored Watchable Wildlife Pavilion.

The pavilion will be set up to give participants the feel of venturing out on their own watchable wildlife trip in Colorado from the grasslands of the Eastern Plains through the mountains in the central part of the state and ending on the Colorado Plateau. Four distinct eco-regions and many wildlife species in these areas will be represented along the “drive.” Along the way there are many interactive displays staffed by DOW experts, volunteers and nature center representatives who will point out many popular viewing destinations and demonstrate some viewing tips and techniques.

There will also be a forest where participants can use their new-found knowledge to look for several different species through spotting scopes and binoculars. At the seminar area there will be several fascinating presentations on bats, birds, black bears, raptors, and insects.

“The Watchable Wildlife Drive exhibit is a first for the Colorado Division of Wildlife,” said Renée Herring, Wildlife Watch coordinator for the DOW. “It’s a great way for us to show people how to watch and enjoy our state’s wildlife, and it will be a tremendously fun experience for participants.”

On Saturday there will be a live bald eagle, and on Sunday, a Swainson’s hawk for people to experience.

Adult admission is $8 and children under 12 are admitted free. The show will be open from 5 pm to 9:30 pm on Wed. and Thurs., noon to 9:30 pm on Fri., 10 am to 8:30 pm on Sat. and from 10 am to 6 pm on Sun.
