Fish for Trout in
Fayetteville
RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 8, 2005) – If you ever wanted to fly-fish for trout but were daunted by that five-hour trek to the mountains, you’re in luck! Thanks to the cooperative efforts of Lake Rim Parks and Recreation and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, anyone interested in learning how to fly-fish for trout will get an opportunity — no special equipment or extensive travel required! On Feb. 2, more than 1,000 rainbow and brook trout made the journey from the Pisgah State Fish Hatchery near Brevard to two ponds at the Fayetteville Fishing Education Center on Lake Rim Road where they will provide a unique angling opportunity for Cumberland County residents who always wanted to reel in a nice-sized trout but couldn’t find the time to drive to the nearest cold-water stream. Anglers of all ages are encouraged to sign up for one of three fly-fishing clinics being conducted by experienced fly-fishing anglers on Feb. 12, March 5 and 19, beginning at 9 a.m. During the six-hour clinic, instructors will discuss and demonstrate the proper fly-fishing techniques, including casting, rigging and knot tying. After learning the basics of fly-fishing, participants will put their newly acquired skills to the test in one of the trout ponds. In addition to stocking the ponds, the Wildlife Commission is providing loaner rods, reels and tackle. The clinics are open to first-time participants only, and space is limited to the first 30 people for each clinic. A $5 fee covers coffee and donuts. Pre-registration is required by the Wednesday before each clinic. To pre-register or for more information, contact Lake Rim Park, (910) 424-6134. Visit the Fishing section for more information on fishing in North Carolina’s public inland waters.
