More land opened for Arkansas deer hunters

LITTLE ROCK - Since floodwaters have dropped, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has reopened deer hunting on some property that was closed last week along the Mississippi River.

All Arkansas lands south of Arkansas Highway 82 and east of U.S. Highway 65 reopened Sunday, Feb. 6, when the Mississippi River dropped to 45.58 feet at Greenville, Miss.

These lands will close again if the Mississippi River level reaches 48 feet at Greenville and will remain closed until the same gauge recedes to 46 feet again.

As of Monday, Feb. 7,  Flood Prone Regions B, E, and F and Henry Gray/Hurricane Lake WMA are the only areas closed to deer hunting due to flood conditions.

Closure of flood prone regions is determined by AGFC personnel at various river gauges at 3 p.m., every day. Each reading is valid for 24 hours.

These reports do not include national wildlife refuge reports. For information on closures of a particular national wildlife refuge, please contact the refuge office.
