The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Wildlife Resources
Division (WRD) recently selected Lt. Col. Homer Bryson as the new
Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement. Bryson most recently held the position
of Coastal Georgia Regional Supervisor for the WRD Law Enforcement
Section. He assumes the position formerly held by Col. Terry West, who
recently was promoted to Chief of Law Enforcement.
“Lt. Col. Bryson brings more than 22 years of experience to the Law
Enforcement Headquarters Office and I am extremely pleased with his
appointment,” says WRD Chief of Law Enforcement Col. Terry West. “He has a
tremendous level of knowledge about this agency and the laws we enforce
and truly will be a benefit to this agency and to the state.”
The Assistant Chief of WRD Law Enforcement must present supervisory,
management and administrative skills for implementing the goals, missions
and objectives of DNR. Lt. Col. Bryson’s duties will include all aspects
of administrating a statewide law enforcement agency, such as recruitment
and hiring of new conservation rangers, training and enforcement.
Capt. Homer Bryson began his career with WRD in January 1983. He was
promoted to Sergeant in 1988 and became Captain of the Coastal Law
Enforcement Region in 1997. Bryson has an associate’s degree from Abraham
Baldwin College and a bachelor’s degree from Valdosta State College. He
currently is enrolled in the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College at
Columbus State University. He has served as Board Member, Vice-President
and President of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia (POAG) and
currently is Legislative Chairman of this organization.
This past year, he had the monumental task of developing and implementing
the water security plan for the G8 Summit, which was a tremendous success
and received numerous accolades from the federal level planners involved.
Bryson also has been able to secure tremendous amounts of federal funding
from the National Marine Fisheries Service for the purchase of patrol
boats, vehicles, boat motors and more, which greatly benefited Region VII.
He also is involved in and represents WRD on at least five law enforcement
related boards and councils. -For more information, contact the Georgia
