FWC REMOVES MINIMUM ACREAGE REQUIREMENT FOR FARMERS NEEDING TO CONTROL DEER February 2, 2005 In Panama City Beach today, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved a new rule that will grant small-acreage farmers the same latitude larger growers have in controlling nuisance deer on their property during the hunting season. Previously, only landowners with more than 640 acres could get permits to take antlerless deer during the hunting season. Antlerless deer include does and bucks with visible antlers less than five inches long. The new rule will enable the FWC to issue antlerless deer permits to farmers who received deer depredation permits for crop damage within the previous 12 months regardless of the amount of acreage owned. Beginning July 1, persons possessing this permit and associated tags can take antlerless deer during the muzzleloading, archery and general gun seasons while on their property.
