Get a head start on your
career with the AGFC |
|
LITTLE
ROCK -What could be more enjoyable than
working with Arkansas’ bountiful natural resources? The Arkansas Game
and Fish can give you just such an opportunity.
The AGFC has an internship program that provides college
undergraduate and graduate students practical experience and valuable
hands-on training in a variety of fields. The training is critical to
students pursuing a conservation career and is often the deciding factor
in gaining employment after college. Students participating in the
internship program will have an opportunity to:
·
Gain practical
job skills in the conservation field while helping the AGFC meet
education and conservation goals.
·
Explore the
different career paths in conservation.
·
Obtain college
credit.
·
Network with
public and private agencies while working on environmental programs and
projects.
The internship program enlists students from a broad range of academic
majors. Internships are available in wildlife/forestry and fisheries
management, interpretation and environmental education, biological
research and monitoring, GIS applications, communications, environmental
law, natural resource engineering and graphic design.
Applicants must have at least 60 hours of college credit and have a
declared major. Applicants also must be full-time students currently
enrolled in an Arkansas college or university and have a 2.5 or higher
grade point average. They must have prior course work in or demonstrate
knowledge related to the internship for which they are applying.
Internships typically last no more than 400 total hours with a stipend
of $9.50 per hour. All interns are paid through their college or
university.
Candidates for the program must complete an AGFC intern application with
required support material from faculty and their sponsoring professor.
AGFC agency personnel will interview qualifying applicants and select
those that best fit the agency’s needs. Applications and guidelines for
submission may be downloaded from the AGFC Web site at
<http://www.agfc.com/education/internship_program.html>.
All funds for internships come from the sale of the popular conservation
license plates that this year features the rainbow trout. For more
information on the Conservation License Plate Program, go to
