Keith
Lincoln, Neb. – Three Nebraska Game and Parks Commission employees were
recently recognized by national organizations for their service to wildlife,
conservation and the shooting sports.
Bill Baxter, the Commissions agriculture program manager, was awarded a
lifetime achievement award by Pheasants Forever. Baxter is only the second
person to receive the prestigious Jeffrey S. Finden Founder Award, presented
for his outstanding contributions to pheasant conservation. Baxter was hired
by the Commission as a biologist in 1968 and has served as a research
biologist, assistant division chief and temporary division administrator. In
1994 he became the agriculture program manager. Baxter has been instrumental
in the drafting of conservation measures in national farm legislation
throughout his career.
The Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA) presented John W. Tobin awards to
Dave Oates, the Commissions forensic program manager, and Jeff Rawlinson, an
outdoor education specialist. The Tobin awards are national awards presented
to one member of an Ikes chapter recognizing his or her outstanding
conservation efforts during the preceding year in honor of the Honorable
Judge John W. Tobin, an early conservationist. The award is the highest Ikes
award extended for individual members.
Oates received the award in recognition of his strong leadership in the
Seward IWLA chapter and for organizing and conducting many activities,
including teaching wildlife forensics at the young persons shooting
workshops.
Rawlinson of the Lincoln Ikes Chapter received the award for organization of
activities promoting both youth shooting skills days and firearm and
bowhunting classes.
