THERES STILL TIME TO SIGN-UP FOR MENTORED YOUTH RABBIT HUNT FEB. 12
- Tom Keith
Lincoln, Neb. – There is still time to register to participate in a mentored
youth rabbit hunt that has been scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 12, at the
Osage Wildlife Management Area near Tecumseh, according to the Nebraska Game
and Parks Commissions Outdoor Education Specialist Jeff Rawlinson.
Rawlinson said the free event will be sponsored by the Commission and the
Great Plains Houndsmens Club. Activities will begin at 9 a.m. and end around
2 p.m. Lunch will be provided. The young hunters will learn about dog
handling, biology, hunting tips and will participate in a rabbit hunt with
beagles, a unique experience that few people ever have the opportunity to
enjoy.
Only Nebraska Hunter Education graduates ages 12-15 years may participate
and they must have their hunter education card on their person when they
hunt. Each youth must provide their own shotgun, ammunition, and proper
clothing. All hunts will be fully mentored, with beagles provided for every
youth. Parents are welcome to attend but will not be permitted to
participate.
There are only a limited number of spaces available, so those interested
should obtain an application form from Rawlinson, fill it out, and return it
to him by Feb. 2. To request an application form, contact him by phone at
402-471-6133 or email
