2004 LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION FUND GRANTS APPROVED - Tom Keith

Sidney, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commissioners approved Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) applications for funding community outdoor recreation projects for fiscal year 2005.

The federal LWCF funds are used as matching grants for state and local governments to use for planning, park land acquisitions and outdoor recreational developments.

Nine local project applications were approved for funding this year. They were:

1. City of Blue Hill – acquire Ash Hollow Golf Course, $98,000;

2. City of Oakland – acquire Tree Farm, 11-acres of land adjacent to the city park, $49,750;

3. Village of Hemingford – construct a new swimming pool and bathhouse facility, $80,000;

4. City of Nebraska City – construct a skate park facility with lighting and fencing, $30,000;

5. City of Imperial – renovate a municipal swimming pool and bathhouse, $100,000;

6. City of Battle Creek – construct a new playground area, $15,000;

7. City of Dakota City – resurface two tennis courts and basketball area, renovation of entrance and equipment, $6,356;

8. City of Falls City – construct a new aquatic park, $100,000;

9. City of Laurel – construct a new swimming pool, $72,894.
