KDWP OFFERS HUNTER EDUCATION "CRASH COURSE"
Course offers nonresidents one-time option
PRATT — The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has been authorized by the Kansas Legislature to offer a hunter education "Crash Course" for nonresidents coming to Kansas to hunt.
The dates and locations of the courses will be established as early in the calendar year as possible and will be posted on the KDWP website. Only courses posted on the website will be authorized. KDWP staff anticipate that there will be three crash courses scheduled prior to and during the 2005 spring turkey season. Locations of these and the fall hunting season course locations will be forthcoming.
The course will consist of an individual taking the International Hunter Education Association (IHEA) Introduction to Hunter Education internet course and participating in an instructor-led class. The individual will bring the test results from the internet course to the instructor-led class, which will last three hours.
The instructor will conduct additional training and testing. In addition, the instructor will administer the standard Kansas Hunter Education Program test. Those who pass will receive a certificate of completion that will be valid only until Jan. 31 following completion of the course. The certificate will clearly state the expiration date and the fact that the certificate is not valid in any other state.
The course will cost $25 and is not renewable. For more information, visit the KDWP website, phone 620-672-5911 and ask for Hunter Education, or email feedbacks@wp.state.ks.us.
