Senator F. Gary Simpson Receives Legislative Conservation Award From Delaware Association of Conservation Districts

Senator F. Gary Simpson of Milford last week received the Delaware Association of Conservation Districts’ 2nd Annual Legislative Conservation Award. The award was presented to Sen. Simpson at the Association’s Annual Meeting and Legislative Reception Jan. 12, 2005 for his exemplary work on the Agriculture committee and Natural Resources & Environmental Management committee that has earned him much respect in the conservation community.

For the past two years, the Conservation districts have selected a legislative member with outstanding service, loyalty and devotion to conservation efforts in the State of Delaware to receive this award.

Sen. Simpson’s conservation efforts and achievements include sponsoring increased Bond Bill funding in the amount of $300,000 state wide ($100,000 per county). This funding is used by the districts for planning, construction, maintenance and installation of tax ditches, public group ditches and resource conservation projects. The additional funding carries an additional financial match by each county which could result in a total $600,000 increase statewide. Sen. Simpson has also been a friend and supporter of District conservation programs and State Fair activities for the last 20 years.

The award was presented at the Maple Dale Country Club where the DACD annually holds its business meeting and legislative reception and dinner.

The Delaware Association of Conservation Districts (DACD), a voluntary non-profit alliance, provides a forum for discussion and coordination among the Districts as they work to ensure the wise use and treatment of renewable natural resources. Delaware has a wealth of natural resources that provide priceless benefits to every Delawarean. Continuing to work to conserve these resources and improve the state’s environment is the alliance’s steadfast goal. The DACD and its conservation partners believe that a quality environment in Delaware is achievable with the full commitment of Delaware’s citizens.
