Wildlife Seasonal And Executive Positions Announced

PIERRE, S.D. -- Game, Fish and Parks officials have announced opportunities for Seasonal and Executive Intern Program employment with the Division of Wildlife.

Assistant Wildlife Director Emmett Keyser said seasonal positions that are available for Summer 2005 may include fisheries, wildlife and habitat technicians, fisheries, wildlife and habitat aides, interpretive aides, conservation crew leaders, walk-in area crew leaders and interpretive technicians. Listings are specific to locations around the state, and some listings have multiple positions available.

For seasonal employment positions, all applicants must be 18-years of age and be available to work the normal summer season, mid-May through mid-August. In some

specific instances, work will begin as early as mid-March with the job running into September or even October. Applications must be postmarked no later than Feb. 11. Applications received after the deadline will still be accepted until all positions are filled. Division of Wildlife Executive Intern Program positions available for summer 2005 include: conservation officer interns, fisheries and fish hatchery interns, wildlife and wildlife damage program interns, habitat and land management interns, GIS/Wildlife interns, information specialist interns, naturalist/program coordinator interns and volunteer coordinator interns. The application deadline for these positions is Feb. 18, however applications received after this date may or may not be considered.

Applicants for Executive Intern Program positions must meet the following eligibility criteria in order to qualify for the program:

1. Any full-time student who is currently enrolled at an institution of higher education is eligible to apply to the Executive Intern Program. This includes vocational-technical programs as well as undergraduate and graduate programs.

2. If you attend a college or university, you must be carrying at least 12 credit hours and have sophomore standing or above. If you attend a vocational/technical school, you must have at least completed the first year of your program, at least nine months, by the beginning of the internship.

Some positions have additional requirements that are above and beyond the program’s minimum requirements. Listings and specific application information can be found online at www.state.sd.us/bop/Jobs/Intern/home.htm.
