Game and Parks Postpones Meeting Due to Severe Weather - Tom Keith

LINCOLN, Neb. – Due to severe weather and hazardous road conditions, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has postponed its Jan. 7 meeting in Sidney and rescheduled it to Thursday, Jan. 20 in Sidney, Commission Chairman Marvin Westcott of Holdrege announced today.

“In light of the severe winter weather throughout the state and extremely dangerous road conditions, it is most important that we place the highest consideration on public safety,” Westcott said. “I apologize for any inconveniences this postponement creates, and I hope those who are interested in the issues to be discussed at the meeting will continue to participate.”

Among the items that will be under consideration at the meeting, to be held at Cabela’s, are:

-A public hearing at 8:15 a.m. to consider changes to the application process and dates for turkey and big game permits for the 2005 seasons.

- A public hearing at 8:30 a.m. to consider season-opening dates for small game and fall turkey seasons.

- A public hearing at 8:45 a.m. to consider regulations pertaining to captive wildlife, game breeding and controlled shooting areas.

- A public hearing at 9 a.m. to consider regulations pertaining to the administration and use of property under public agreements for Vencil’s Island, located in Sarpy County, and for Mitchell Valley in Scotts Bluff County.
