Free Hunting And Fishing Day
Celebration To Be Held On The Lower Eastern Shore
SALISBURY – In an effort to jointly commemorate National Hunting
and Fishing Day and provide additional opportunities to participate in
these activities, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
Wildlife & Heritage Service and the Maryland Cooperative Extension/4H will
hold a FREE outdoor recreation celebration on Saturday, Sept. 25 at
the Princess Anne Civic Center grounds in Somerset County.
Congress established national Hunting and Fishing Day in 1972 to recognize
sportsmen for their conservation achievements. Each U.S. President since
then has designated the fourth Saturday in September as NH&F Day.
Many of the activities will be oriented toward youngsters and will
include: archery, shooting shotguns and bb guns, fly tying, trap setting
demo, casting for accuracy, turkey calling, forestry awareness activity,
building blue bird boxes and much, much more. The celebration will be held
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is FREE! T-shirts and prizes will be
given away and food will be available for purchase from the 4-H. The Civic
Center grounds are located on Crisfield Lane, 1 block west of Route 13 in
Princess Anne.
Cooperating organizations and agencies include: Maryland DNR, Wildlife &
Heritage Service, Forestry Service and Natural Resource Police,
Cooperative Extension Service/4H, Salisbury Zoo, Blackwater National
Wildlife Refuge, Maryland Bow Hunters Society, Eastern Shore Chapter of
the National Wild Turkey Federation, Maryland Fur-trappers Association,
Assateague Mobil Sports Fisherman Association (AMSA) and others.
