Sight In Your Rifle For Accuracy and Ethics

LEWISTON - With hunting season rapidly approaching, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) reminds hunters that hunting ethics begin long before going afield. Sighting in rifles is a good example.

"By taking the time to prepare and become a better marksman, you show great respect for your quarry," said Kent Henderson, IDFG hunter education coordinator. "Hunters should practice shooting from a variety of distances to help prepare for the very situation that might be encountered afield."

Hunters of all ages can improve their shooting skills and prepare for the upcoming hunting season by practicing at the Lewis and Clark Wildlife Club. Open Friday through Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., qualified experts will be on hand to help participants practice offhand shooting, utilize impromptu rests and improve accuracy by shooting at steel and moving targets.

The range fees are $2.00 for members, $5.00 for non-members and youth under 18 shoot free.

The range is located 5 miles northeast of Lapwai on the South Tom Beall Road. From Lewiston just head south toward Lapwai on Highway 95. Go east on the Tom Beall turn off about a mile before you get to Lapwai. When you get to the Y take the right fork, South Tom Beall Road. 4.5 miles down the road with the range on the left.

For more information, call 843-2987 for a recording of the days and hours of operation, or visit the club's website at www.lcwildlife.org
