visitors to Panguitch Lake was pretty grim. Thousands of dead fish
littered the shoreline following a rotenone treatment to remove
Utah chubs from the lake. A year later, the scene at the lake is dramatically different. Thousands
of fat rainbow trout and cutthroat trout ply the waters, and anglers are
gearing up for some of the best fishing at the lake in decades.

Ron Garavelli, Director of the Mississippi Fisheries Bureau, did

Salmon in New Jersey
On May 17, 2007, the second stocking of landlocked salmon in
New Jersey took place: Wawayanda Lake received 1300 fish and Lake
Aeroflex received 500 fish. These fish averaged 7.2" in length at
7 fish per pound. There have been reports of fish from the 2006
stocking being caught at 13-14 inches in length, a near doubling

Curran and his brother Mark were searching for striped bass on
Beaver Lake March 22 without any luck. Worse yet, this was Day 5
and they’d caught nothing. “On that fifth day of striper fishing,

officer tales - April 2007
CO Randy Hanzal stopped two snowmobilers committing several
violations. The officer gave them a break and issued only one
citation believing they would control their behavior. An hour
later the two were again observed speeding and a chase ensued.
After several miles one of the snowmobiles threw a belt and the
operator was apprehended. The two again asked for mercy from the
officer saying they couldn’t afford another ticket.

regulation change follows a nationwide trend to ban so-called
"Internet hunting" that has been offered on various web sites. The
National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses adopted internet hunting

illegal commercialization of white sturgeon in the Sacramento area

Beginning March 15
When
done properly, paddlefish snagging has a rhythm. Pull back on the
line with its treble hook, then let it sink. Reel in a little,
then heave back on the stout rod again, let it sink and reel in
again. Mirroring that rhythm is the Missouri Department of
Conservation's paddlefish stocking - 33,000 fingerlings annually,
with pulses of up to 66,000 fish every third year. The result is a

MOUNTAIN LAKE COMMUNITY PARK TO BE DEVELOPED
VDGIF announced today that it will be using up to $80,000 of
Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration funds to help Franklin County complete
construction of a fully accessible fishing pier at Smith Mountain Lake
Community Park. The 100 ft. long pier will be the only publicly accessible
fishing pier on the southern side of Smith Mountain Lake. The pier's
location along the main channel of the Roanoke River will allow for anglers
to pursue striped bass, largemouth bass, catfish, and panfish.

Sheep Arrive in Nebraska
The
final release of bighorn sheep captured and transported from
Montana has been made in Nebraska’s Wildcat Hills. A total of 51
bighorns have been released on a private land site south of
McGrew. The first release was made Jan. 21 when 20 sheep captured
in the Missouri River breaks south of Havre, Mont., were released.
The remaining 31 were released Jan. 27 after being captured in the
Sun River Canyon near Augusta, Mont.

Lakes
Wolves; Proposed Delisting of Northern Rocky Mountain Wolves
Deputy Secretary of the Interior Lynn Scarlett today announced
that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is removing the western
Great Lakes population of gray wolves from the federal list of
threatened and endangered species and proposing to remove the
northern Rocky Mountain population of gray wolves from the list.
The two separate actions are being taken in recognition of the
success of gray wolf recovery efforts under the Endangered Species

ANGLER REELS IN STATE RECORD SAUGER FROM BOYSEN RESERVOIR
A new state
record was set Jan. 7 when Casper angler Tom Durst reeled in a 7.5
pound, 26.5 inch sauger from Boysen Reservoir, breaking the old
record that has stood since 1999. The old record, a sauger
weighing in at 7.4 pounds and measuring 26.2 inches long, was also
caught at Boysen by Brad Berg of Riverton March 14, 1999....

 | DEC Announces Public Meetings on Plan to Restore and Enhance Niagara
River, Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River Fisheries
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC)
announced today that five public meetings will be held and public comments
solicited on the draft "Sportfishing Restoration and Spending Plan" for the
Lake Ontario system. The Draft Plan proposes ways to restore and enhance
recreational fishing and fisheries in the New York waters of the lower
Niagara River, Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River, and their tributaries
upstream to the first barrier impassable to fish, hereafter referred to as
the Lake Ontario system.
